Unlike Hades, Binding of Isaac, and some others in the genre, you’re not going to end up with ridiculous off-the-wall builds and items that allow you to circumvent the main mechanics in favor of your triple-down bid on lightning chains, or whatever. That’s not to say that there isn’t good diversity and strategic building- there certainly is, but the game rests on its fundamentals and only gets medium-wonky with items. Stunning Graphics

Gorgeous cell shaded graphics hum along at 144frames on a decent gaming laptop. Cool exploration, with a fun light mechanic to twist things up a bit. Strategic choices and tradeoffs to be made, both in terms of your path through the dungeon (you’ve usually got a few choices for what type of room to enter), and in terms of whether to take some corruption damage in trade for an item you don’t have quite enough gold for. Corruption eventually builds into a curse, of which you can have up to 5. These are varied, but often include a positive trade-off along with a penalty, which is a fun twist.

Diverse Arsenal

Most importantly, Combat! The arsenal that you might stumble across is highly diverse, and more can be unlocked (think Dead Cells). The combat is fast but methodical- there is a high skill ceiling with the parry and perfect dodge mechanics. Not as treacherous as (lord forgive me for the tired comparison) Souls types of games, in that a single mismanagement of stamina won’t leave you dead, but with skillful usage of your combat techniques, you’re not at the mercy of the RNG of your build to make a good run. The combo system is really good and deserves a mention- weapons are bound to one of three keys, primary, secondary, and two handed (if you have one) each with a charge attack and a standard combination (there are also secondary revolvers and bows, which have their own interesting mechanics). These attacks can be chained, with a charged finisher thrown in at any time, with a few interesting synergies between certain weapon types.
